Education in Canada

There are many types of financial aid programs for students in Canada. There are financial aid programs for students who are looking to obtain their degree from online, or to study internationally, as well as students who intend to enter into a University setting. In order to qualify for financial aid, a student must be a citizen of Canada. Students who plan to travel internationally, or take online classes for an international college will need to sign up for a Canadian exchange program before they can apply for financial aid. The exchange program is there to help students study subjects that are more obscure, and harder to find in a regular curriculum. The financial aid department will be used to verify whether a student is eligible to receive financial aid by checking on their residency status, their age, and other economic factors.

The types of financial aid that a student can receive for online distance learning, attending a university, or online international studies are:

Grants- Grants are given by the government of Canada to students who qualify. The different qualifications will vary, and only one or more of the qualifying factors will apply. A student will qualify if they are disabled, economic hardship, if a student has dependents, and if a female enrolls in a Phd program. The amount of Grants offered vary between the amount of two thousand, and up to eight thousand dollars a year. Grants are loans that must be paid back once a student graduates, or leaves the institution earlier than planned.

Bursaries- Bursaries do not have to be repaid back by students. They are financial aid resources that are there to help students who are in financial need. The Bursaries are paid for by the government. However, Bursaries can be denied if a student does not keep their academic grades up.

Scholarships- Students can earn scholarships from private resources and organizations that donate money to certain academic causes throughout the state of Canada. The requirements to receive a scholarship depend on their grades, ethnic background, involvement in their community, or residency status.

Student Loans- Student loans are loans that are given by a specific educational institution for academic purposes. The loans must be paid back after a student graduates, or leaves the university sooner than expected. Students who qualify will receive over $150 a week to help with college expenses.

Work Study Programs- Students can work at various facilities within the college institution as employment. Students are hired part-time to help with administration duties, teacher aides, or library assistants. Having a work study job is like having a regular job where the student is to show up to their respective jobs on time, and perform satisfactory work.
