The term “starving student” is one we’re all familiar with. It’s tough going paying tuition or to pay off a student loan. Buying books can also be a challenge. So why pay full price for textbooks when you can buy them 2nd hand? Or, when you are done with your books, sell them to recoup some of the money you spent.

Textbook recycling isn’t a new concept. But finding the right books in the right edition may be somewhat difficult. If you are wanting to buy or sell textbooks, all you need to do is search online and you’ll probably find the books you need. There are the usual suspect sites like Ebay, Craiglist and Kijiji. It’s only a matter of visiting the sites repeatedly until you find the exact book you are looking for.

When buying or selling used textbooks, make sure to confirm the condition of the book. A pristine condition book will always go for top dollar – but not at the full ticket value you would have spent buying new! However, as there are different types of conditions books are typically found in, you can save even more for more than “gently” used conditions.
